MONDAY’S CUP OF MOTIVATION
Every one of us will face tough times along the way. We will either face these tough times alone or we will have a village surrounding us to make sure we are not alone. The simplest words to remember are these. “If we want to have a friend, we need to be a friend.” Circumstances can change overnight. We will change careers many times over in our lives but our core friends and family will stay the same. How many times do we neglect these core friends and family members because something more urgent came up? We may not intend to do this but we do. We get so tied up in worrying about what our legacy will be and will we make dent in the world? If we are striving to be the next Steve Jobs or Walt Disney, then we are striving to be in a small club. Most people buy into the belief that the work they do will define their legacy. Throughout the history of mankind and the billions of people who have come before us, there are only a handful of people who we remember for their careers as a general, religious figure, entertainer or entrepreneur. All the rest created their legacy using something much more important. Always remember that friends and family are the things that truly matter in life. When things change in our lives, we turn right back to these people because we know they will be there for us. We don’t define our parents by what they did and our legacy will not be defined by what we did either. The most important thing in our lives that will honestly be our legacy is our children and how we treat them and the people we come into contact with. Being the best person we can possibly be and being there for others will be our legacy. We will not talk about what somebody did for a career when they’re gone. We will talk about the person they were. We have the opportunity to create an amazing legacy. Being loved and trusted by those we care the most about is the most amazing legacy we can create. We will not need to rely on others in order to create this. We will create our legacy through our actions. The results will bring us more joy throughout our lives than any career could. If things do change in our lives, these friends and family members will be there for us because we are there for them. The goal is simple. To live a long and happy lives surrounded by friends, kids and grandkids. That is the goal and that is our legacy. What an amazing gift. Have a phenomenal week.
