Real-Estate Stocks Recover
Posted in Real Estate News
Real-estate stocks posted strong gains in the fourth quarter, a sharp turnaround from a few months ago, when panic about Europe’s debt crisis threatened to derail the commercial real-estate recovery.
Real-estate investment trusts, as measured by the Dow Jones All REIT index, registered a total return of 15.1% for the quarter, the best performance since the third quarter of 2009.
The fourth-quarter return, which was slightly ahead of the broader stock market indexes, represented an about-face from the prior quarter, when REITs had a negative return of 15%.
